Grace Community Church Covenant

Historically Baptist Churches have adapted church covenants as a way of expressing their convictions on Church Membership. In 2015 the members of Grace Community Church adapted a revised J. Newton Brown Baptist covenant from 1853. This covenant sets forth our convictions regarding Church Membership.

Having been brought by God’s grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, we do now, relying on His grace, fervently and joyfully covenant with each other:

To be diligent to preserve the Unity of the Spirit in the Bond of Peace (Ephesians 4:3; Romans 5:1),

To walk together in brotherly love, exercise affectionate and watchful care over each other, and faithfully admonish and entreat one another (1 John 3:16-18; Romans 12:4-8; Galatians 6:1-5),

To not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, nor neglect to pray for ourselves and each other (Hebrews 10:25; James 5:16),

To rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15),

To deny ungodliness and worldly lust and live carefully in the world (Titus 2:12),

To remember that we were buried with Christ by baptism and raised again from the symbolic grace to live a holy life (Romans 6:4-5; Colossians 1:21-22),

To seek the salvation of our family and friends by proclaiming the Gospel without same but with gentleness and respect (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Peter 3:15),

And to work together to be a Gospel-Centered Church by sustaining its worship, ordinances, discipline, and teachings and by contributing cheerfully and regularly to the spread of the Gospel to all people groups, the expenses of the this church, and to the ministry as a whole (Hebrews 10:19-24; Matthew 18:15-20; 2 Corinthians 9:6-15)

If we move from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all.
